Ghrelin receptor agonist (GH secretagogue)
Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide that mimics ghrelin to trigger growth hormone release. It was never approved by the FDA, and federal advisers voted against allowing pharmacies to compound it.
Key facts
- Commonly discussed for: stimulating growth hormone release.
- Evidence (C): Its largest human study, a 114-patient phase 2 randomized trial for post-surgical ileus, found no significant difference from placebo. There are no published trials for the body-composition or anti-aging uses it is commonly discussed for.
- FDA status: Not recommended. On October 29, 2024 the PCAC voted 0-12 (1 abstention) against adding ipamorelin to the 503A Bulks List, and as of FDA's April 2026 update ipamorelin acetate remains on the Category 2 list for 503B outsourcing facilities.
- Legitimate access: No clear legal route yet.
