Tesamorelin
Egrifta
Tesamorelin is a growth hormone-releasing factor analog approved by the FDA as Egrifta for a narrow use: reducing excess abdominal fat in people with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Uses outside that label have not been established by FDA review.

- Commonly discussed for: reducing belly (visceral) fat.
- Evidence (B): Two phase 3 placebo-controlled trials (412 and 404 patients with HIV) showed visceral fat reductions of about 15% and 11% versus placebo over 26 weeks. Evidence for other uses is limited, so it is graded for a narrow approved indication.
- FDA status: FDA-approved. FDA approved Egrifta in November 2010 for reducing excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy.
